About

An owner-operated New Zealand business bringing engineering judgement, verified supply relationships, and practical deployment experience to Bitcoin mining and digital heating.

ASIC.NZ is led by Devdass (Director), BE(Hons) Mechanical Engineering — University of Auckland. His involvement with Bitcoin began while still at school in 2013. Today, that background combines with mechanical-engineering training and hands-on work across hardware selection, immersion cooling, heat recovery, acoustic control, supplier verification, and site deployment.

From interest to infrastructure.

What began as an early interest in peer-to-peer money developed through physical builds, published research, factory visits, and working heat-reuse systems. These are the milestones that shaped ASIC.NZ.

  1. 2013
    First principles

    Constructed my first Bitcoin transaction

    While still at school, I first heard about Bitcoin from a good friend as we waited in line at the tuck shop. He described how peer-to-peer money could move value outside traditional banking rails and capital controls. That conversation led me to construct my first Bitcoin transaction later in 2013.

    Hardware + software

    Built a live cryptocurrency ticker

    Designed a Raspberry Pi and LED-matrix ticker that retrieved live exchange data and presented cryptocurrency prices as a physical, continuously scrolling market display.

  3. Jan 2022
    Applied engineering

    Built the first PLEB-TNAK

    Developed PLEB-TNAK, an immersion cooling system for Bitcoin mining hardware, on 9 January 2022—turning an interest in mining infrastructure into a practical engineering project.

    Energy research

    Published an early digital-heating concept

    Authored “Intelligent Self-Consumption System: Heating homes for free, recycling waste energy, and improving solar system ROI” on 2 May 2022—an early foundation for the digital-heating work pursued today.

    Industry participation

    🇦🇺 Connected with the Australasian crypto industry

    Maintained direct involvement with the regional cryptocurrency industry through AusCryptoCon in Melbourne, two subsequent conventions in Sydney, and the inaugural NZCryptoCon in Auckland.

    Immersion cooling

    Imported New Zealand’s first Fog Hashing C2

    Imported New Zealand’s first off-the-shelf immersion cooling product—a Fog Hashing C2—a 12 kW system designed to accommodate two miners—for a customer in the South Island. Since that first deployment, several more C2 systems have been imported for New Zealand operators.

    Manufacturer relationships

    🇨🇳 Met suppliers at their factories

    Travelled to Chengdu to visit HeatCore, Xi’an to visit Fog Hashing, and Shenzhen to visit Shenzhen Letine Technology Co. These visits provided the opportunity to inspect their operations and establish the face-to-face relationships that now underpin ASIC.NZ’s supplier network.

    Applied engineering

    Open-sourced cooling and acoustic designs

    Published the PLEB-TNAK V2 and PLEB-SAC repositories on GitHub on 30 July 2024, documenting an evolution of the original immersion system and an applied approach to sound attenuation for mining hardware.

    Working heat reuse

    Heated a spa pool with Bitcoin mining

    Used a Fog Hashing C2 to maintain a spa pool at 38°C, 24 hours a day, for several months. Built a custom dashboard to monitor water temperature and energy use remotely, turning the installation into a measured, real-world digital-heating system.

    Incorporated ASIC.NZ

    Incorporated ASIC.NZ on 19 May 2025, bringing mining hardware supply, engineering support, digital heating, and direct manufacturer relationships together for New Zealand operators.

    New Zealand operations

    🇳🇿 Visited Grid Share at Lake Monowai

    Visited Grid Share’s mining operation at Lake Monowai in Southland’s Fiordland region, approximately 67 km from Te Anau. Grid Share builds and operates flexible, power-responsive data centres that can adjust their demand to suit grid conditions. The visit provided a direct view of this model operating alongside one of New Zealand’s oldest hydroelectric schemes.

    🇦🇪 Attended Bitcoin MENA and the M7X launch

    Attended Bitcoin MENA in Abu Dhabi and the WhatsMiner M7X Series Launch Event, extending direct exposure to current mining technology and the international manufacturer ecosystem.

    Heat-reuse deployment

    Delivered New Zealand’s first 24 kW C6 system

    A New Zealand client became the country’s first customer to take delivery of a 24 kW immersion cooling system: the Fog Hashing C6. The C6 accommodates six miners—three times as many units as the C2—and is being integrated with an in-ground swimming pool so its mining heat can be captured and put to productive use.

Supplier Verification Policy
ASIC.NZ operates under a strict counterparty verification policy: no supplier relationship is established until Devdass, ASIC.NZ's director, has met them in person, toured their facilities, and completed a private purchase. This standard applies universally across ASIC, immersion, and hydro hardware. It is not a formality — it is the minimum threshold for any commercial engagement.
